I was commissioned to do a piece for the exhibition ”Dimension of Space” at the Columbus Art Foundation. The exhibition hall used to be a printing house and kept its industrial look from those times. From that point of view I wanted to place an object that would become as obvious as possible in this described space. As a visitor walks closer to the ladder, the steps begin to move up- or downwards due to the visitors` position. This movement, controlled by a motion detector stops after a short period of time. This principle of switching on an escalator is known from daily life and adapted to this simple aluminum ladder.
